Brain Data or Consumer Data?

Largely due to the advancement of artificial intelligence, the area within the intersection of neuroscience and technology has been skyrocketing in its developments. In an interview led by Battelle Technical Fellow Justin Sanchez, he discussed the future of neurotechnology as that of which will provide significantly greater accessibility to the public. He discussed NeuroLife- a novel non-invasive and wearable neurotechnology product; It reads signals from one's nervous system. NeuroLife is focusing on making this technology accessible to the public, hoping it soon becomes a habit in our daily lives to wear this product on our sleeves.

The NeuroLeadership Institute focuses on utilizing "Neurointelligence" to enhance thinking. In fact, the organization uses a newly-launched AI platform called the Neuro Intelligent Leadership Enhancing System (NILES). The NeuroLeadership Intititue writes, "Research shows typical AI chatbots don’t tend to make us much smarter because they supply answers, stemming curiosity or further creative thinking. NILES, however, is designed to prompt further reflection, getting people to arrive at “Aha” moments on their own, which other research shows are among the most potent motivators we experience, because they come from within."

In the 2026 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), one of the world’s largest and most influential technology trade shows, various different kinds of neurotechnology were showcased. Rather than there being EEG caps, neural technologies ranging from earbuds to wearables were displayed. For instance, the NAOX LINK is the first FDA-authorized in-ear EEG in the U.S. It measure electrical brain activity, allowing brain monitoring at home rather than solely in hospital settings.

It's evident that companies are aiming to make neural technologies more widely accessible to the public, indicating there is currently a substantial value to enter the market in the neurotechnology category. But why? Is it the recent increase in healthcare needs? I believe it's the novel integration of humans and artificial intelligence platforms.

And how soon will brain data become re-branded as consumer data? What do you think?
